Carly's baby shower was planned for Saturday, December 19th. RSVP's were confirmed, decorations made & purchased, food menu prepared...but Carly couldn't come. She wasn't able to make her flight home (medical reasons + bed rest) & JoJo & I were left to decide if we should still have the baby shower or cancel, knowing that Carly wouldn't have a baby shower if we were to cancel (there wasn't any chance of her coming back to Utah before the babies were born, and traveling to Utah afterwords wouldn't happen for at least 6 months).
We did what any sister would do...we had the baby shower without Carly & opened all her presents. Well, sort of. We used JoJo's computer and Skyped Carly in; she sat on the dining room table, watching us have a great breakfast, and chat with each other. Poor thing. I had my baby shower while on bed rest too, but I was actually able to attend! It happened to be in my bedroom, and everyone just sat with me on my bed, but still, I was in physically there and I opened my own presents. Aw, but Carly understood and was a good sport. Plus, her baby shower will be one talked about for years to come!
We had a 9:30 am brunch with waffles, fruit, and juices. Wait, I mean homemade pumpkin spice & buttermilk waffles made on our new waffle irons (we had 3 going at the same time!); homemade pina colada syrup (thanks Pam!) and homemade buttermilk syrup; fruit kabobs; potato skins (was supposed to be queesh, but surprisingly they were a hit); and milk, apple juice, and freshly squeezed orange juice - just kidding about the "freshly squeezed" part. It was heaven. And the table spreads were beautiful, and our little helpers did a fantastic job of rolling the silverware and tying it with pink ribbon.
