Taking down Christmas

Taking down Christmas - what a sad thing. I have my piano room back, but it seems somewhat less musical than it did before. There are no twinkling lights, no dangling ornaments on a hand-me-down Christmas tree, no blue velvet tree skirt with messages of "Peace" and "Good Will," no hopeful surprises of gifts beneath the tree...it's just less musical without these once-a-year furnishings.

The need to have my things put back in their places was too strong a pull - I admit I took Christmas down the day after. Re-wrapping the Christmas ornaments as I put them away, making sure to put our 3 new ornaments in their boxes, was a wonderful reminder of earlier Christmases. Tony and I started a tradition of buying an ornament each year with the date on it. 8 years of ornaments dating back to 1999! This year we added 2 more ornaments, in addition to our traditional 2007 ornament: Rebecca & Mary-Gail's very own Christmas ornaments.

1999 Crystal Ornaments - a complete surprise from Tony for our first Christmas! (He got these at the Market in Charleston, SC)

2000 "Santa Fireman"

2001 Grandma Gourley made these

2002 "Sleigh & Scarf" set (It was a cold winter)

2003 "New Home" for our new home in Charleston, SC

2004 "Our Family" with our two girls, Pixie & ArlaMae

2005 "Palmetto Tree" handpainted from a co-worker

2005 "Golden Pineapple" to remember the good & happy times & hospitality in Charleston, SC (we moved back to Utah the end of 2005)
2006 This year was most special because we got our girls as our Christmas. 2 ornaments - once from the nurses/staff at the NICU...
...and Tony purchased the other ornaments - Angels. Very appropriate don't you think?
NEW this year:
2007 "Our Family" but bigger and better than 2004 ornament
2007 "Ducky" Rebecca's ornament. We have a Sassy ducky that she loves!
2007 "Musical Box" Mary-Gail's ornament. Reminds us of Mary-Gail's super sweet laughter & smiles

I agree its nice to have your space back but sad its over. One tradition that Josh and I started when our kids were young is that every year the kids got a new ornimant and then when they get married they take their's with them so they have something to put on their tree. They think that its pretty fun!
